Hope in a Basket is a value-added gift basket service designed to generate revenue and awareness for the Carson J Spencer Foundation, www.CarsonJSpencer.org, and its mission through the sales of handcrafted gift baskets promoting mental health.

Our baskets contain products that promote mental health and well being while uniting socially responsible and affirmative businesses together with the cause. Some products are donated from health-conscious businesses; other products are purchased to help sustain affirmative businesses employing disadvantaged workers.  The baskets are semi-customized and handcrafted in elegant professional designs. Those who purchase Hope in a Basket products feel generous and socially connected, and those who receive the gifts often appreciates the beauty and utility of the product while feeling a personal touch.

Giving from the Heart: Did you Know?

Both the giving and the getting of baskets is an emotional experience.  According to the author of Attitudes of Gratitude (Ryan, 1999), “When we feel gratitude for what we have received, we have an experience of fullness.  From that fullness, you naturally want to give back…The virtues of gratitude and generosity are linked to each other like ‘the in and the out breaths.’”

According to WebMD (2003), altruism offers mental health benefits that help counter the negative effects of stressful life events, “people who offer love, caring and support to others have better mental health than those who only receive help from others.”
